Take Care of your Integrity by Marian Rassek
/“Take care of your integrity (righteousness), and the Lord will take care of your prosperity.” — Charles Spurgeon
It seems to me that we still think too much about blessings and success. This should not be our focus. A person who lives in a righteous and honest way has the help of God Himself assured. Scripture says:
“If the Lord is pleased with a man’s ways, He makes even his enemies live at peace with him.” (Proverbs 16:7)
From this passage it follows that all lesser matters (being reconciled with enemies is truly a difficult task), including financial success, will certainly take place in our lives.
Living in a way that pleases our Father gives strong confidence that we will not “live in poverty.” However, I do not believe we will gain wealth for its own sake. If it does appear in our lives, it should be used to help others. I once wrote that Jesus Christ had considerable means during His earthly ministry and gave to those in need, rather than showing off riches.
When Christ came to Jerusalem shortly before His crucifixion, He arrived on a donkey, which was a symbol of peace, humility, and simplicity (although He could have come in a victor’s chariot or on a magnificent horse — He had sufficient financial means to do so). Notice, however, that during this rather unspectacular “entry,” the people cried out, “Hosanna,” which means “King, save us now.”
The success in our Lord’s life was only a means to the most important goal — the salvation of souls.
And let it remain so in our case as well!
