The Invaluable Value of Coalitions in Times of Crisis by John P. Kelly

Mexico City Earthquake, September 20, 2017

It is in the times of Crisis like hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, and more, that we can truly appreciate the Value of a Network or Coalition!

In Matt. 24:6-14, Jesus talked about events at the end of times – wars, famines, earthquakes, and persecution throughout the world… but it is only the beginning of the horrors to come… “but those who endure to the end will be saved and the Good News about the Kingdom will be preached – so that all nations will hear it and then the end will come.”

Many are saying that this scripture is a revelational word for this present time that either the rapture is about to happen or the end of the world is eminent.

There is MUCH yet to do prior to return of Jesus Christ, therefore let us not listen to those screaming ‘this is the end!”  It is NOT the End!  It is the beginning of the Church to become the Church of Reformation (transformation) for the people of the nations.

Despite what you might hear, or what you don’t hear in the news, the Church is not sitting on its hands!  All Christian denominations are sending people, supplies, and aid to every disaster.  They are demonstrating the Compassionate heart of Jesus. Groups like Samaritan’s Purse, Somebody Cares, Citi Hope, and many other compassionate ministries and apostolic leaders have mobilized their churches, networks, businesses, and organizations to bring relief to the hard hit people.

Yesterday, I spoke to Israel Gordillo in Mexico, the son of Apostle Carlos Gordillo the CIMA Convenor. He tells me there is a tremendous rescue effort by the CIMA churches and leaders in response to the recent earthquake in the Mexico City region. They were some of the First Responders to the area bringing supplies and their hands and equipment to dig out people from the rubble.

I also called my friends in Puerto Rico but  no one is responding yet – except we got at text from Sydney Stair:  "It's a disaster zone - but we are ok - No internet, no phone, no light, no water, our house is flooded, but under control. Tell the others we are ok.” The entire power system is destroyed so it will probably take months before it’s restored - but it will be longer for lives to go back to the way it was before the storm.

We just heard that the dam near Apostle Mickey Medina's Church in Isabela is about to break and everyone in the region is being evacuated!

In 1989, I experienced this kind of devastation when Hurricane Hugo ripped across Aruba and then hit Charleston, South Carolina as a Category 5. I was in it twice! Aruba was destroyed, just like many islands are now. It took South Carolina a long time to rebuild the power lines and restore water and years for the area to recover. I had a network of churches at the time and many of them were the first to respond.  They delivered trucks loaded with supplies and people to help us rebuild. Our home church in Summerville was the Operations Center to distribute tons of food, clothing, other materials, and minister to the people throughout the region.

The value of a Network of Churches and a Coalition of Leaders

during times of crisis is Invaluable!

It is the local church or mission outreach in an area that has the contacts and knows the needs, but with the help of the network, they are a powerful force for God’s compassion to bring hope and help and demonstrate the transformative power of Christ. Now is such a time for God’s people to unite.

I call on all apostolic leaders in ICAL to bring the needs of these disasters to your people, as well as the need to pray for the persecuted Christians around the world. Take whatever action is possible to relieve the suffering and pain of those in need.

Like the early church in Acts 4, “All the believers were of one heart and mind, and they felt what they owned was not their own; they shared everything they had. And the apostles gave powerful witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus and God’s great favor was upon them all.”

Building and praying together with Him and you,

 John P. Kelly
