Thanks to a generous donation of medicines by Aurobindo Pharma USA, CitiHope was able to deliver nearly $1 million in anti-retroviral medicines to H.E. Ambassador Michael Moussa-Adamo at the Embassy of Gabon to the United States of America in June.
Referred by MedShare, our partner in The Coca-Cola Africa Foundation’s ShareHope medical program, CitiHope responded to an urgent request from the Embassy of Gabon to the United States for anti-retroviral medicines to assist the government of Gabon in the national fight against HIV/AIDS.
With the support and advocacy of First Lady Sylvia Bongo Ondimba, Gabon is implementing an ambitious national program of HIV testing, anti-retroviral treatment, comprehensive care for pregnant women, and universal health insurance for the treatment of opportunistic infections associated with HIV, with the goal of reducing overall infection rates and preventing maternal-to-child transmission of the virus.
These medicines have now been delivered to Gabon, where they are being provided to patients in outpatient treatment centers across the country.
